Strength in Weakness

"Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." I Corinthians 1:26-30

This is one of my favorite passages of scripture because it flies in the face of what this world considers important. I've also clung to these verses many times when I've felt depressed and discouraged about having a child with special needs. It's easy to feel despair at times! Yet I know that the Lord has a plan for Nathan and even though we can't see clearly what that is, we do receive glimpses from time to time.

Yesterday was one of those times. Once a month our family goes to a local nursing home and run a service for those residents who want to attend. Emily & I lead the singing, the boys read scripture and Dan preaches. Yesterday, Dan asked Nathan to share his testimony.

He did a good job and afterwards, one of the residents came up to Nathan and told him how much he was blessed by his testimony. This man has cerebral palsy and has suffered with it since he was a child. It was difficult for him to speak but he was encouraged by Nathan's testimony.

So we were encouraged too that the Lord is working out a plan in Nathan's life. He knows exactly what He is doing and we need to continue to trust Him!
