Wednesday Words of Encouragement

Luke 2:9-11 ~ An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

Joy! Excitement! Spirits renewed! Morning had dawned for the nation of Israel. Hope had come to them and more than that, great joy! Finally, after the long night of waiting and wrestling and longing God sent them the Savior they longed for.  He didn't come in the package they expected though.  They were looking for a king to slay their enemies and instead the Savior came in humility and was slain himself.

But fortunately, the story didn't end with Christ's death upon the cross.  He rose from the dead and ascended and is the reason we have faith today.

Luke 15:3-7 (HCSB) ~

So He told them this parable: “What man among you, who has 100 sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the 99 in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it? When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders, and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’ I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who don’t need repentance.

In this holiday season we get so caught up in the trappings of Christmas. The lights, decorations, presents, parties and busyness take over all our thoughts. We can forget the true meaning behind our celebrations.

Christ came to earth in human flesh in order to provide a way for us to live with him in heaven.  The heavens thunder with joyous applause when someone comes to faith in Him.  The very air shakes with the noise of that rejoicing.

This Christmas don’t forget the reason we have joy and why we can get out of bed each day. God came and dwelt among us in the form of a baby, a man, and a Savior! Remember what He has done in your life and feel His joy this morning!

Then go out and share that joy with others.  Don't keep it to yourself.  Give the angels opportunity to shout with joy when someone decides to follow Christ. Go out and share some good news today!

Joy to the World, the Lord has come!
Let earth receive her King.
