Really Bizarre Sunday!

Okay, I don't want to go into too many details because it wouldn't be very edifying but Dan & I had the most bizarre afternoon.

Ummmm, let's just say we were invited to dinner with a few people from church at someone's house. And then let's say when we got there it was a room full of people that we didn't know at all. And then let's say one of the women that was there and I just met, proceeded to tell me everything she thought was wrong with homeschooling. Did I say that I just met her? By the way, the people we knew did show up but the room was so packed that we couldn't speak to them.

Then, let's say that after we sat around for an hour and a half waiting to eat when this very well-dressed lady showed up with these men in suits. The lady, who was not the hostess, started agressively introducing herself to everyone and then said we need to eat because the presentation lasts about 40 minutes!!!!

Presentation? What presentation? Wasn't this supposed to be a get together with friends? ACK!!!!!

Let's just say we wolfed down our food and then came up with a very good reason to leave!

So to recap.....we went to a party.....with a bunch of people we don't know.....to get criticized for homeschooling..... and to be tricked into a sales presentation that we managed to escape from.

Bizarre!!!!!!!

    Terry,
    that is a pet peeve of my husbands. He has a really hard time being invited to a dinner under false pretenses. He is not easily angered but that is something that makes him get very upset.
    Ug, that and the home school comments would have been very irritating and them something to laugh about later!

    I had my very own cousin do that to me once! She invited me to come to her new house since I had not seen her in a while and it wound up being some "Amway style" presentation she conveniently forgot to mention.

    I got out of there as fast as I could and was so fuming. I have yet to go back, LOL!

    I don't know why people don't tell you up front what these dinners are all about so you can make a decision as to whether or not you want to attend. They aren't going to sell people anything that they aren't interested in buying!! It just leaves a bad feeling.

  Despite the unexpected busyness and interruptions, I have been plugging away at my weight loss as well as writing the plant-based, whole food cookbook. Recipe testing fell by the wayside the past two weeks, but I've still gotten a good chunk of the book done. I also got on the scale this morning for another one pound loss which makes a total of 61 lbs. since I started this journey back in July. It's second nature at this point and I have so much more energy and feel healthy. The only negative is that because I've lost so much weight I'm seeing some sagging, crepe-papery skin happening. Yuck. Some of that is age and I need to figure out some toning exercises. It's definitely a life-style change, but a positive one which I'm so thankful I started on. Haste Makes Waste in Decision-Making

Those of you who are methodical and think things through before acting or responding probably don't have to reflect on the saying, "haste makes waste" too much. But for some it's a hard lesson to learn, especially if you are a quick decision maker. I did look up where the saying came from and it was first recorded in the  apocryphal Book of Wisdom around 190 BCE. It says, “There is one that toileth and laboureth, and maketh haste, and is so much the more behind.” Over time it was shortened to the quip we know today. For myself, it's a lesson I've had to learn. I've spent countless hours throughout the years having to go back and redo something or find solutions to problems brought about by being too hasty in my actions or response in agreeing to  do something another wants me to do.  To be honest, that later problem is more of what I have struggled with in my life. The Result of Staying Connected

 In 2024 I wanted to work on staying connected in three areas of my life - to the Lord, to others and to the purpose He has given to me. In John 15, Jesus uses an analogy that his disciples would have understood very clearly - that of a grape vine. Throughout this passage he uses the word, "remain."  He tells his disciples the following 5 things: Branches that don't remain connected to the vine do not bear fruit and are thrown away.  Those branches that do bear fruit will be pruned to make them even more fruitful.  Jesus reminds them that His word must remain in them in order to be fruitful. He lets them know that they must remain in God's love as they go out and love others. They can't love in their own strength.
