Clinging to the Rock
Dan and I went to Niagara Falls yesterday afternoon. It was the first time I had been there since I was in college. It was nice to get out and walk and see this beautiful sight. As I was leaning over a railing and staring down at the falls from the top, I saw a bunch of daisies clinging to the side of a rock.
Water was thundering around them and yet, they were hardily growing in the midst of all the spray. Behind them was a rainbow and it was a beautiful sight. Something about it struck a chord with me.
There are many days when I feel as if I'm in the middle of a thundering waterfall and am just hanging tightly to whatever I can grab. The waters of chaos, hardship, and stress are crashing around me and all I can do is hang on for dear life.
Yet God wants me to bloom and flourish and be productive even when it seems as if I might get swept away. And He is there watching over me, walking with me in the midst of the crashing water, showing me that His promises are true and sure. He will lead me through these times and help me to grow stronger.
Perhaps you are in a storm today or feeling as if the water will sweep you away. Cling tightly to our Rock and to God's promises. He can be counted on. He will see you through. When we cling to Him, He will help our roots to go down deep so that no matter how much the water crashes around us, we will not falter.
