The Groanings of our Heart

Romans 8:26-28 ~

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans.

He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

Wordless groanings is an accurate expression of many of my prayers. I usually have so many words to say and yet, in prayer, I find my words do not adequately express what is in my heart. At times it's because I'm full of joy and other times, full of sorrow.

Yet, the Lord hears and meets me where I am. He understands and listens to the heart behind the inadequate expressions of speech. My words may be garbled, but the Spirit understands.

God met me in my need this past week and I'm thankful. He showed up and touched my life. He reached down and worked in ways that I was not expecting in my circumstances. He met not only my spiritual need, but my physical and practical needs.

The Lord provided in a way that I was not expecting and I am just amazed. I love that about Him. We expect so little and He blesses beyond measure.

I am tired after my busy week, but my heart is full from being in His presence. After talking all week at meetings and two retreats, my voice is weak and raspy. There came a moment when I felt like I ran out of verbal words to say.

But I am so thankful that God hears my inner prayers and groanings. I am in awe of His blessings.
