Praying God's Word
Colossians 1:9-12 ~
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
In this passage Paul prays for the church at Colossae and prays this beautiful prayer over them. He asks God to fill them with six specific qualities and characteristics. These should be something we each pray for not only for ourselves, but for those around us.
Praying God's Word
Pray for...
The knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and knowledge that the Holy Spirit gives. Are you seeking HIs will for your life? The Holy Spirit does impart wisdom to us so that we may understand what God wants for us.
A God-centered life which pleases Him. Do you seek to please the Lord in all you do in this life? Or is He taking second place to everything else?
Bearing fruit. What fruit are you producing? We are to daily produce joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness and self-control according to Galatians 5. Are you growing in these qualities?
Growing in the knowledge of God. How do you grow in knowledge of Him? You do this by spending time in His word and by daily talking with the Lord. You can't get to know someone if you never spend time with them.
Being strengthened by His power so you may patiently endure all things. The only way we can face hard times and not give up is by the strength God gives. Are you asking Him for His power to help you through?
Giving joyful thanks to the Father. Why should we give thanks? Because we have been given an inheritance into His kingdom because of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. We have been adopted into His family and are called His sons and daughters. That should cause us to leap with joy!
Isn't that a great way to pray for others? It's also a great way to pray for yourself!
