Rambling

It's been a strange week with two out of the five days being spent with my father-in-law and just letting him process the loss of my mother-in-law. I took him to lunch one of the days and he is so wobbly and frail that I was afraid he was going to fall. I had to hold right on to him while we were walking. I think he is going to need a lot of attention in the coming weeks.

Other than that, I've spent it outside and enjoying the nicer weather, catching up on emails and correspondence, cooking and a bit of sewing. When I was at my conference I had some free time the morning of the event and hit up one of my favorite fabric stores which is owned by a Mennonite woman. She has a beautiful selection of fairly inexpensive quilting cotton fabric. Now that one of the fabric giants have gone out of business I have to find a different source of fabric.

My oldest celebrated his 34th birthday yesterday and I made him one of his favorite meals. There is a woman who works with individuals with disabilities and comes to the house once a week and works with him to implement activities in his life plan.

In his plan is learning to cook and she goes shopping with him and then goes to our church to use the kitchen there and he generally likes to make a big pot of soup so he can take it for his dinner at work. Then he brings it home and transfers it into freezer containers. Yesterday, she bought him a very nice crockpot for his birthday. I think I benefit from that gift as well! 😀

We've been blessed with cards from different people, a beautiful potted plant from the church, a gas card to help with all the back and forth traveling we've been doing, and the woman I mentioned above also brought us cupcakes and a card. People have been kind.

I'm working on a message for Sunday as I'll be filling in for Dan while he spends the morning with his dad. His mom's graveside service is in the afternoon and he felt like his dad is going to need a lot of support that morning. I'll meet him at the cemetery for the service.

Today I'm headed to the church for the first time since last week because I need to catch up on things there. Dan had to go deal with a bit of a flood in the church basement yestereday afternoon after some torrential rain. It happens every time it rains hard and fast, because the drainage on one side of the church is not good. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I need to go mop those floors with some soapy water. The life of ministry leaders is not glamourous. 😀

And as I'm typing this I just remembered I have to go for an annual checkup this morning so I better stop my rambling and get moving!

Have a wonderful weekend.
