Sometimes You Need to Give Thanks

Normally, I sit down on Monday and reflect on the things I'm thankful for in my life. Yesterday was a busy day and so I'm doing this a day late, but sometimes you just need to stop and say, "Thank you!"

Ministry:

I have a district-wide fall retreat coming up this weekend and have been busy putting together all the finishing touches on that. Usually, I start having dreams around this time that center around me being unprepared so I'm amazed that hasn't happened.

I also have to prepare three messages for a conference I'm speaking at in Texas the second weekend in October. It's coming up quickly and I really was starting to get concerned, because while I know what I'm speaking on, I didn't have anything down on paper. However, yesterday I sat down at my laptop and was amazed that two out of the three  messages came together. That's usually a sign that I have gotten out of the way, and allowed the Lord to give me what He wants me to say.

My plan today is finish up the last minute details of the event  this weekend, and then work on that third message. I also will need to work on a workshop I'm leading at our district's missions summit but I do have time for that as that doesn't take place until October 18th.

The season:

My favorite season is finally here and the weather has been beautiful. We finally got some much needed rain yesterday and I think it's supposed to rain today too. I'm thankful for that.

Family:

My eldest son was asked to speak to a group of new trainees about what it means to be an individual on the autism spectrum and he did a great job! They actually want him to start doing this all of the time, including going to some of their other locations. It's been a great boost to his self-confidence.

My other son received employee of the month. He works at the same agency, but works directly with individuals with severe disabilities. He loves his job and I'm thankful they recognized his hard work.

My father-in-law has settled in to the assisted living place he's been living. Despite his complaining (a tendency he has), he seems to really enjoy himself. He's extremely social and they have all kinds of activities. There is a private Facebook group where they share pictures of the activities so I get to see lots of pictures of what he is doing. It looks like fun!

Root beer, that is!

I am thankful for another new day to enjoy.
