Merry and Bright

It's been snowing the past few days and I'm working really hard at trying to stay upbeat and positive or merry and bright as my ornament says. As I've gotten older I find that I really struggle with the winters and the lack of sunshine.

The snow let up yesterday afternoon so I got outside went for a walk. It really was more of a work-out as I walked up into the park, thinking the town had plowed the road around the park. They had not done it so I slogged through knee deep snow in spots. But it was just the thing I needed to get out of the doldrums.

It is still snowing this morning and is supposed to do so through tomorrow morning. I've been keeping myself busy. I finished filling out all my Christmas cards. I ordered some gifts. I got my message for Saturday's event done. I have butter thawing on the counter to make some Christmas cookies. I  also plan on making some jam today.

I'm supposed to have a meeting this afternoon, but we will see if they still plan on coming since the person I'm meeting with lives further north.

It's been a weird kind of holiday season this year. We've had loss (my mother-in-law and my stepfather). Change is coming as my daughter and son-in-law will be moving out of state the day after Christmas. We will be helping them with that move. Things are transitioning in my district ministry and I'm trying to figure out what that will look like going forward especially as there is no replacement for my ministry at the moment. This is all giving me a bit of an unsettled feeling.

But......I remind myself of the constants:

💓 I have a family that loves me.

💓 I have a purpose in my life.

💓 There are so many things to keep me busy and productive.

💓 The sun is still shining above even when I can't see it.

💓 The SON is still a constant in my life.

That is true for all of us and that is the reason we can stay merry and bright.

  1. That is serious snow! We rarely have it in the UK, except in the North.

    1. We are so close to two of the Great Lakes (Erie & Ontario) and because we had such a warm fall they didn't freeze over as quickly as they normally do. Which means every time there is a storm all that moisture from the lakes gets picked up and dumped here.
