The Marvels of Modern Medicine

I know that many people out there bash our medical system but I have to offer up a praise to God today for our modern medicine! I don't think we give doctor's enough credit. I know there are some wacky ones out there but we have been blessed with doctors that care about our children and do their best to help them. I am especially grateful as I have children with fairly serious medical issues.

Nathan had his 3 month endocrynologist appointment today. When we first took him to Dr. Romano we were told he would be lucky to make it to 5'1". After ruling out a number of other reasons for lack of growth, it was discovered that his body does not produce enough growth hormone. So I have been giving Nathan injections 6 days a week for the past 2 1/2 years of growth hormone.

At his appointment today he had gained 4 lbs. in the past 3 months and grew another 7/8". He is now 107 lbs. and is 1/8" shy of 5'7"! Praise God!!! His size was such an issue for him and he really struggled with this so much. So needless to say he is absolutely thrilled and so are we!

The doctor feels that he had a lot more growing to do since he is still in the beginning of puberty.

So I wanted to take some time tonight and just give thanks to God that we live in a day and age when we are blessed with modern miracles!

  3. That is wonderful. My nephew was found to have similar problems at a young age... he was showing signs of dwarfism according to the doctors. He spent over 2 years (at the age of 3-4) taking hormone shots. The doctors don't think he will ever be 6 foot but he is growing at a more normal rate.

Praise the Lord for His Blessings.

  5. Thank you ladies for your kind thoughts.

Traci, one thing the doctor mentioned to me is that the growth hormone wouldn't make Nathan 6 feet tall. He will grow to where his genetics allow if he didn't have the problem. So given the fact that his dad is only about 5'8" he probably will be around that or not much taller. That is wonderful about your nephew.
