Out of Commission

Dan came home from his retreat on Sunday night, but it turned out he had been running a fever since Friday night. Yesterday was the sickest I've ever seen him. He had all the flu symptoms - fever, massive headache, aches and pains, and chest pain.

So my day yesterday was spent with cold compresses, ice water, ibuprofen, and chicken broth. I knew he was on the mend this morning when he woke up and wanted to eat a bowl of cereal. He is back to his old self tonight.

Now, I just need to keep those nasty germs away from the rest of us!

  2. It is quite possible that your dh had the novel swine flu (much more likelu this than seasonal flu). Many patients have reported feeling better and then suffered relapses. It is imperative that your husband rest for a few more days. He will also likely be shedding virus for a time after his symptoms disappear. He was also probably shedding virus last Thurs. and Fri. if he started feeling sick on Fri. So you and the children have very likely been exposed and may be incubating the virus. Please, please, stay away from pregnant women as this flu is a huge risk to them and their babies.

Should the children show symptoms get them to a doctor within the first 48 hours so that they can be prescribed antivirals. This is especially vital if they have any underlying medical conditions like asthma. If they get sick, hydration is super important.

You can find oral rehydration recipes online (salt, sugar and water).

    Stay well
