In Harmony

Romans 12:15-16 (NIV) ~ 

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 

I was recently invited to join our new church's worship team and love singing with them.  It can be a little intimidating because they are trained musicians and the singers have such a great ear for music that they can tell which note is being played or sung just by listening.  So at times, I get a bit timid that I may be hitting a wrong note. :-)

 But when the harmonies blend together, it's beautiful.  I sing 2nd alto, another woman sings 1st alto and then two other people sing the melody.  I love hearing how our voices blend together.

 I looked up the meaning of harmony on an online dictionary and this is what it had to say.

Harmony ~
1. Agreement in feeling or opinion; accord: live in harmony.
2. A pleasing combination of elements in a whole: color harmony; the order and harmony of the universe.
3. Music
a. The study of the structure, progression, and relation of chords.
b. Simultaneous combination of notes in a chord.
c. The structure of a work or passage as considered from the point of view of its chordal characteristics and relationships.
d. A combination of sounds considered pleasing to the ear.
Harmony is a beautiful thing and something for which believers should be known.  Yet so often, our lives are full of disharmony.  We disagree, get angry, bad mouth and gossip about our fellow sisters and brothers in the Lord.  We share private information with a degree of pious concern that is really masked backbiting.

When will we ever learn?

The Lord wants us to make sweet music together.  He wants us to support each other.  To be happy for those are happy.  To empathize with those who are mourning.  To put others before ourselves.  

 Let's work on making beautiful music.  Let's blend our different talents, gifts, and personalities together to make a wonderful chord that is pleasing to those who are listening.

 Let's make sure we are singing in harmony today.

    Thank you this post! Disharmony is something it's so easy to fall into.
    I'm an alto too and my husband and I both sing on our church's worship team. It has been a great blessing for us.

Oh What to Do; I'm Sixty-Two!

Today is my sixty-second birthday and it's hard to believe I've achieved that....um....seasoned age! My first thought this morning was one of not being sure that I like it. However,  as I thought I about it, I decided to take joy in the fact that I've reached an older age. Because age comes with benefits. Benefit #1 - I'm a bit wiser.   When I look back at some of the decisions I made when I was younger, I cringe. With age has come the ability to slow down and think things through before I make major upheavals in my life. I've also discovered that getting worked up about certain things is just an absolute waste of emotional energy. Benefit #2 - I'm enjoying my life.   As I've aged I've learned all kinds of skills and hobbies and can honestly say that I'm never, ever bored. Eating to Live

  Despite the unexpected busyness and interruptions, I have been plugging away at my weight loss as well as writing the plant-based, whole food cookbook. Recipe testing fell by the wayside the past two weeks, but I've still gotten a good chunk of the book done. I also got on the scale this morning for another one pound loss which makes a total of 61 lbs. since I started this journey back in July. It's second nature at this point and I have so much more energy and feel healthy. The only negative is that because I've lost so much weight I'm seeing some sagging, crepe-papery skin happening. Yuck. Some of that is age and I need to figure out some toning exercises. It's definitely a life-style change, but a positive one which I'm so thankful I started on.
