Wednesday Words of Encouragement: You've Got the Power

Ephesians 3:14-21 (HCSB) ~

For this reason I kneel before the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. I pray that He may grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power in the inner man through His Spirit, and that the Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

My guys love superhero movies, which seem to be a popular genre nowadays. They all have one thing in common. The hero of the story has this unknown and untapped power inside they begin to discover and use. The more they use the power, the more control they have over it. The hero of the story uses it for good and the villain uses it for evil.

Did you know that as a follower of Christ you have a power inside of you too? It's the power of the Holy Spirit. The spirit indwells all believers when we confess our sin, turn from following our own desires and want to follow Christ. But often that power is untapped because we don't walk in tune with the Holy Spirit.

Many times we act according to our own human desires.  We run ahead of God.  We never stop, ask and then wait for the Holy Spirit to work his power in our lives and circumstances.  And just like those heroes in the movies, the more we work within the power of the Holy Spirit, the more we allow His power to be used, and the more we can hear from Him.

The Holy Spirit dwells in us but we will never see His power if we don't spend time in prayer and wait to hear what He wants us to do.  His power in our lives will always be stifled if we are walking in our own human desires and sin. The Spirit will not move if we run ahead and do our own thing. And the Holy Spirit will never manifest himself if we don't ask.

I want to encourage you to listen to the Holy Spirit.  Ask the Lord to manifest Himself in your life.  Let's be strengthened in the power of the Holy Spirit and then we will begin to see wonderful things happen in our spiritual lives and will be filled with His fullness.

I don't want to live a mediocre spiritual life. I want to see God mighty power in my life.  How about you?
