Before I Wander
Because I had my dates mixed up I ended up scheduling my leadership team retreat for Friday and Saturday which meant a lot of traveling, on top of the plan to pick up my father-in-law for church yesterday. I drove the hour to where he lives, took him to his church, for a drive and then out to eat for lunch. Dan met up with us after he was done at our church.
As I'm sitting on my back patio this morning its been a bit difficult to concentrate. Every dog, bird, chipmunk and bee in the neighborhood has decided to bark, chirp, squeak and buzz around me the entire time I've been out here.
Plus, I'm having a difficult time concentrating as my mind keeps wandering. It is wandering to the wonderful retreat I had with my team, to the day we had with Dan's dad yesterday, to the walk I went on with Dan and Stephen when we got home and to the list of things I need to do today.
As my mind keeps wandering down different paths, I have to keep pulling my attention back. Sometimes a wandering mind is pleasant, but other times it isn't. It also wanders to grief over the losses I've had recently. It wanders to stress and difficulties we are experiencing. It wanders to the mountain of things I have to get done and problems I need to solve.
Before I head down those bunny trails, I want to take time to sit and relax, listen and pray, think and soak in the beautiful morning. Because as I sit in the Lord's presence, it gives me the strength to face the hard things.
May your day be bright and beautiful and full of moments of reflection.
I hope sometime today you sit on that lovely swing and relax with that lovely view!!
