August - Out With a Bang

It's September 1st and August seemed to fly by and yet, I packed a lot into that month. It went out with a bang as we enjoyed fireworks last night. We had company for dinner and Dan, Nathan and Stephen and some of our guests walked down the street and up into the park where they were having them. My friend and I sat in our backyard to watch them there. The trees blocked a clear view, but we saw enough to enjoy them.

I spent the weekend canning tomatoes. I used up a half bushel  of them making jars of diced tomatoes and ended up with 16 pints and 4 quarts. I still have another half bushel to go and will be making tomato sauce either today or tomorrow.

I have cabbage fermenting in jars and once that happens (about 7-10 days), I'll be canning these.

I have a fall retreat I'm putting together for women in our district which will take place the last weekend in September so I've been busy working on that. This may be my last fall retreat as my role as district Alliance Women's Director is done in June. It will feel weird not to have that responsibility anymore. I've been in this role for the past 8 1/2 years. While I will miss it, I am kind of looking forward to not having this huge weight on my shoulders. I'm praying about who my successor will be and while it's not clear right now I'm hoping the right person will come along.

Fall is my favorite season and I'm looking forward to all the autumn things. I cleaned up my flower beds the other day and added some mums.

It's been very chilly the past week and it's been nice because it's put me in the mood to do more baking and cooking.

I made enchiladas for our guests last night with homemade tortillas and homemade enchilada sauce. The sauce was delicious! I've never made it before and tweaked it for my way of eating. I've added the recipe on my other website, The Frugal Connection.

I'm still getting out and walking each day. The past few days when I've walked it's been down into the 40's (Farenheit). But it's been so beautiful.

It's Labor Day here in the states and a holiday. We are headed to my sister-in-law's this afternoon, but my plan is to get out and walk this morning and also start to decorate my house for the fall season. I do love the decor of autumn because I can leave it up through Thanksgiving in November.

August was a busy month, but it was a good one. Yesterday was my daughter and son-in-law's first anniversary and this time a year ago we were traveling back after a very busy weekend of festivities. I'm thankful for the peaceful way we ended the month this year.

Of course, September started out with a bang too because I've been up since 3:30 a.m. I think it's time for another cup of coffee!
