Sick Kiddo

Well, all my plans got scrapped today as I dealt with a very sick child. Nathan has been struggling with allergies for years now. His latest trip to the ear, nose and throat specialist resulted in a CAT scan. We are still awaiting the results.

He is pretty ill today. He is running a fever, has a sore throat, wheezing and can barely breathe. We ended up in the doctor's office just to find that it is still all related to his allergies. So, he is now on another medication. This makes 5 different kinds of medications he is taking for various problems.

I feel bad because I had a fire burning in the fireplace all day on Saturday which triggered his asthma. His allergies are so frustrating to deal with because there is not a whole lot we can do. He is severely allergic to dust mites and it seems to be getting worse. Unfortunately, when he is sick, it also causes him to have even more tics from the Tourette's Syndrome.

He just threw up because of all the gunk running down his throat and told me he hopes tomorrow is a better day. Poor guy. :-(

    Father God,
    We lift up Nathan to you right now... we ask for a speedy recovery from his sickness, that he may enjoy Christmas. We ask that you would strengthen Terri, give her patience and endurance to meet the needs of her son.

    Oh Terri, poor Nathan. It's so hard to deal with kid's allergies, isn't it? Very frustrating, I know what it's like. My two are the same. Praying for some answers and something which will work for Nathan. Praying for you too dear Terri.

    Thank you ladies for your thoughts and prayers. He is still sick but feeling a bit better today. I think the antibiotic is starting to work.

    Stephanie, we did not. I have to call the ENT to make an appointment and see the results of the CAT scan.

Oh What to Do; I'm Sixty-Two!

Today is my sixty-second birthday and it's hard to believe I've achieved that....um....seasoned age! My first thought this morning was one of not being sure that I like it. However,  as I thought I about it, I decided to take joy in the fact that I've reached an older age. Because age comes with benefits. Benefit #1 - I'm a bit wiser.   When I look back at some of the decisions I made when I was younger, I cringe. With age has come the ability to slow down and think things through before I make major upheavals in my life. I've also discovered that getting worked up about certain things is just an absolute waste of emotional energy. Benefit #2 - I'm enjoying my life.   As I've aged I've learned all kinds of skills and hobbies and can honestly say that I'm never, ever bored. Eating to Live

  Despite the unexpected busyness and interruptions, I have been plugging away at my weight loss as well as writing the plant-based, whole food cookbook. Recipe testing fell by the wayside the past two weeks, but I've still gotten a good chunk of the book done. I also got on the scale this morning for another one pound loss which makes a total of 61 lbs. since I started this journey back in July. It's second nature at this point and I have so much more energy and feel healthy. The only negative is that because I've lost so much weight I'm seeing some sagging, crepe-papery skin happening. Yuck. Some of that is age and I need to figure out some toning exercises. It's definitely a life-style change, but a positive one which I'm so thankful I started on.
