Crafty Things

I've had a very productive week in the craft department.

I made Emily a dress.

I'm not thrilled with it. It looks lopsided because of the way she is standing. That's not the problem. It was looking pretty good until I put the sleeves on and then it just seemed too busy. I attached the bow in the front but it just seemed to make it look worse. Oh well!

I also made 3 dishcloths. I made one with a hodgepodge of leftover yarn and then I also made these two. These things are great and the last ones I made lasted over a year.

Well, that's it for this week. Hopefully, I can get as much done next week as I'm trying to stay consistent and do one or two projects per week.

  1. Well Terri - it looks like one young lady is thrilled with your work and she looks as pretty as a picture :)
Aren't we tough on ourselves when we make stuff?

  2. Pretty fabric Terri. Might it look better without the bow, do you think? I dont feel it looks lopsided!

  3. I agree, Elizabeth. The bow looks really out of place!

  4. it's funny how hard we can be on ourselves... I wasn't thrilled with the pillow case shirt I had made for Kaycie but she loves it!
Does Emily like the new dress? I think she looks very pretty in it.

  5. Emily hates dresses, period! So it wouldn't matter what it looked like. LOL

  6. Terri, I think if you were to change either the bodice & sleeves or the skirt, it might not look so busy.

If I were you, I would just replace the skirt with some plain colored fabric that matched the colors in the sleeves and bodice. I had some dresses that I made for myself that I made the bodice and sleeves in plain fabric and the skirt in a matching print and then I made one with the bodice and sleeves in a print and the skirt was in a matching solid color. Both came out really well.

Of course, this would mean taking it apart and buying more material...a little bit of work.

By the way, what size is Emily in now. I was thinking of making her something for her birthday.

I don't think that the problem is necessarily the dress though, to me it just looks a little big on her, is it?

    Love,

    Mom

  7. Yes, it was a little too big on her. I made a size ten but she probably could of still fit in the eight.

  8. How lovely that you sew! I loved sewing for my daughter when she was home. I learned to add little touches...perhaps a plain colored sleeve to give it a jumper effect with a touch of the dress fabric as binding on the sleeve hems. No matter how lovely a fabric, when it is sewed into a garment it sometimes needs those extra touches. But the bright side of being disappointed is that you come up with ides for the Next Time! *smile*

  9. Whitestone, welcome! Thank you for your kind comments. I certainly will learn for the next time. I'm not really motivated enough to rip it out and start over! :-)
