Come and Hear!

I remember sobbing with fear into my pillow one night as a six year old, because I had just watched my father shove my mother to the floor.  She had come home late from work and he had been drinking.  He accused her of all sorts of terrible things and as their voices shouted at one another, I was terrified.  A few years later, my parents separated and later, divorced.

Psalm 66:16 (NIV) ~

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.

God took that frightened little girl and put her into a relationship with a wonderful, Godly man who is a committed husband and terrific dad.  We have been married for almost 27 years and I never once have worried about the stability of our relationship.

As a young teenager, I sat on a boulder on a mountain top and committed my life to serving God in full-time ministry.  I had no idea how or what that would mean for me.  I was apprehensive on how the Lord would use me.  I was an insecure young woman from a broken home in a tiny little town.  What could I do for the Lord?

Psalm 66:16 (NIV) ~

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.

I have served the Lord in full-time ministry for the past 30 years.  He has led Dan & I to places most would never go, in the inner city, church planting, and rural church ministry.  We have seen people come into a relationship with the Lord, be set free from bondage and grow in Christ through our ministry.  It's been extremely difficult at times, but always rewarding.

As a mother, I often cried as I was frightened for my firstborn's future.  He has multiple disabilities (learning and developmental) as well as health issues.  What would happen to him?  How would he manage?  How will God use a child on the autism spectrum, Tourette's syndrome, learning disabilities, allergies, and a number of other things?

Psalm 66:16 (NIV) ~

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.

Today, Nathan works about 30 hours a week and is a volunteer on the local fire department.  He manages very well.  He is determined, committed and has very high aspirations.  God has used his disabilities and that has made him into the focused young man he is.

Over the past 53 years I have faced multiple moves, sadness and heartbreak, anxiety, fear, hurt, stress, and death.

Psalm 66:16 (NIV) ~

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.

God has been my constant companion during those years and has turned those negative things into joy, strength, perseverance, dependence on Him and a wonderful life.

I am so thankful that I turned to Him so many years ago.

Psalm 66:16 (NIV) ~

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.
